Mental Health First

Mental Health First is an innovative system to better meet the mental health needs of young people.  This program ensures that school and community mental health providers work together to meet the mental health needs of youth in an efficient and effective way.

Mental Health First provides early identification of youth with mental health needs and streamlines access to treatment through the public-school system by bridging the gap between school and community mental health providers.

In this new system, the school-based therapist is responsible for utilizing data driven decision making and research-based interventions to identify the top two percent of youth with the most intensive mental health needs. The community-based therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic services within the school setting to the identified youth.

These services could include individual therapy, family counseling, and or tele-psychiatric treatment
